Choosing a P.L.A.T.O. Grade Scheme

Instructors can choose a grading scheme for a P.L.A.T.O. course site from among those made available by Educational & Emerging Technologies.  An instructor can create a custom scheme, but it will only be available within that course site.

Use the Office Lens mobile app to simulate scanning a document. With Office Lens you can capture documents, whiteboards, photos and even business cards, and then convert them to easy-to-read files in multiple formats.

Create Groups in a Merged P.L.A.T.O. Course Site

Groups can be created in a merged P.L.A.T.O. course site based on section enrollment. If a student switches to a different section within the merged site, the instructor will have to manually update the group enrollment.

Create Seating Charts for Merged Sections

Seating charts can be created to track attendance and participation in a merged P.L.A.T.O. course site once a group has been created for each section.

Creating P.L.A.T.O. Seating Charts

Seating charts can be used in P.L.A.T.O. to track attendance, participation and performance in face-to-face classes.  Seating charts integrate with locations and the calendar in a course site once the seating chart is complete. Grade column(s) would need to be created and populated manually. The seating chart you choose should be a visual representation of your classroom seating arrangement.  Classroom details and photos are available to view in the ITS Knowledge Base.

Creating the Calendar Events for a P.L.A.T.O. Seating Chart

P.L.A.T.O. seating charts integrate with locations and the course calendar to help instructors track attendance, participation and performance in face-to-face classes.  The seating chart is a visual representation of your physical classroom seating arrangement and must be added before integrating it with the calendar.

Delete a Quiz, Dropbox or Discussion Item From the Gradebook

Gradebook items that are associated with a dropbox, quiz, or discussion cannot be deleted from the grade book until the instructor has "unassociated" the assignment from the grade book.

Delete Manually Created Gradebook Items

Gradebook items that are not associated with a dropbox, quiz, or discussion are referred to as manually-created items. These items can be deleted from the Manage Grades More Actions menu.

Dropbox Grades Not Showing in Gradebook

Grades for a dropbox may not show in the course gradebook if the correct options have not been chosen in the Dropbox settings or if the grades have not been published.

P.L.A.T.O. Awards

P.L.A.T.O. awards can reward students for achieving a grade on a select assignment, completing a checklist, or performance at a select rubric level.  These digital badges and are modeled after Boy/Girl Scout awards.

P.L.A.T.O. Quiz Special Access

Grant special access to a quiz can be granted to students.

P.L.A.T.O. Seating Charts: Tracking Participation

Instructors can track student participation in the seating chart by clicking on the plus sign each time a student voluntarily participates or answers when called upon (cold call).

PLATO Gradebook Drop Lowest Non-Bonus Items

Instructors who use the Percentage Grading option in a PLATO gradebook can choose to drop the lowest non-bonus items for a category where all items in the category have the same point value.

Quiz Feedback for Students

With an instructor's permission, you can view questions answered incorrectly, as well as individual question feedback.

Taking Attendance with Seating Charts

A quick way to take attendance with the Seating Chart is to first mark All Students Present for the current class.  Then change the one or two who are not present to Absent, where you can choose "Unexcused Absence" or "Excused Absence".
