P.L.A.T.O. Seating Charts: Tracking Participation

Overview

Instructors can track student participation in the seating chart by clicking on the plus sign each time a student voluntarily participates or answers when called upon (cold call).

Instructions

  1. Open "today's" class on the course calendar and select "More" to view the seating chart.
  2. Select a student from the  seating chart and then click the plus/minus sign to change that student's participation or cold call response.
  3. Note in Figure 1 below, that the student in Row 3, Seat 1 now has a green background because he/she has participated today.  The number 2 at the top right of the square indicates he/she has volunteered to participate twice. He/she also now has a yellow star because he/she correctly answered a question when the instructor called on him/her directly (cold call).
  4. "Set the Session Complete" once class has ended for the day.

Seating charts can be used in P.L.A.T.O. to track attendance, participation and performance in face-to-face classes.  Seating charts integrate with locations and the calendar in a course site once the seating chart is complete. Grade column(s) would need to be created and populated manually. The seating chart you choose should be a visual representation of your classroom seating arrangement.  Classroom details and photos are available to view in the ITS Knowledge Base.
