How to Download, Install Respondus 4.0, and Retrieve a Quiz From P.L.A.T.O.

Overview

Respondus 4.0 is a third-party tool for creating exams that can be printed on paper or published to your P.L.A.T.O. site. Note: Respondus 4.0 can only be used with a Windows operating system. We would recommend closing all applications before downloading and installing Respondus.

Instructions

Step 1.

Click on Respondus Download (exe file to install Respondus).

Step 2.

Open the File Explorer at the bottom of your screen and select Downloads on the left navigation. From here, you will double-click the Respondus folder to open it. Once the folder is open, you will need to double-click the Respondus4Campus file to begin the installation process.

Step 3.

Choose your Setup Language and press Next>.

Run the InstallShield Wizard by clicking Next >.

Read and accept the terms of the license agreement and press Next >.

Step 6.

Unless you want to change the folder where you would like your setup files located, you can click Next > on the Choose Destination Location screen.

Unless you want to change the folder where your project documents are stored, you can click Next > on the Projects Folders Location screen.

Click Install to begin the installation.

If you do not already have the Respondus Equation Editor installed, click Yes.

Click Finish to exit the Wizard.

Step 11.

Once installation is complete, double click on the Respondus 4.0 Campus Wide icon on your desktop to open it.

Step 12.

Browse to the KB Article Respondus License Information to view the license information. Type the Institution Name and Local Support Contact exactly as it is shown in the article. We'd suggest you then copy and paste the 16-digit Installation Password. When you are done click the License button. Please note that you will need to update the Installation Password once per year.

For tips and information about Respondus, click the Follow News.respondus.com button. Otherwise, click Close to open Respondus.

Step 14.

When prompted to Choose LMS Personality, click the drop-down and select D2L Brightspace. You can verify your LMS Personality and make any changes from the Respondus Start Page.

Step 15.

Go to the Retrieval tab and click on Retrieve Questions to run the Retrieve Questions Wizard and establish a connection with P.L.A.T.O.

To run the Retrieve Questions Wizard, click the dropdown to the right of Brightspace Server and select Add New Server.

Make sure the 'Yes, check for preconfigured server settings' button is checked and click Next.

Click the dropdown and select P.L.A.T.O. for your learning system.

Step 19.

Enter a name for your server, (i.e. [Your Name] Server). You can elect to Save My User Name and Password on this computer if it is not a shared computer. Also, keep in mind that when you update your password, you will also need to update your Respondus password settings. Lastly, you'll want to make sure Run Connection test is selected and click Next.

Step 20.

You'll likely be prompted to log into Brightspace (aka P.L.A.T.O.). Select OK.

If prompted for an additional Authentication Module Download, click OK.

When the P.L.A.T.O. window opens, login with your Penn College credentials. *You may be prompted to do this several times. Just answer OK if you are prompted to login again (See Step 17) until you receive the Login …completed indication and click Next.

Step 23.

If prompted that Respondus is trying to access your information, place a check in the box ‘Do not ask me again for this application’ and press the Continue button.

Step 24.

Click the dropdown to Choose Course to Retrieve from. Click the dropdown to choose a Quiz. Give the quiz a name for the new Respondus file and click Next >.

When the quiz is successfully retrieved, click Finish.

Step 26.

Click the Preview + Publish tab at the top, click the Print Options tab on the left navigation, determine whether you want the Exam or Exam with Answer Key in Step 1, and click Save to File.

Note: When you close Respondus you will be prompted to Save changes to the file you just created. Select Yes to save the file in Respondus.
