Finding the Wireless MAC Address on Miscellaneous Devices

Overview

The wireless MAC address, or hardware ID, is required to register your device for the PCTIoT network. This information can typically be found in the device's network settings menu or on a label on the device itself. Occasionally, you may need to connect to a network for the wireless MAC address to be viewable.

Below are two examples of where to find your wireless MAC address. If you need additional assistance with your device, please contact the Student Help Desk in CC/102c.

Instructions

Example 1. Apple TV.

The MAC address can be found on your Apple TV under the UPC. In this example, you would want the Wireless ID.

You can also find this information within the About menu in your Apple TV's settings as seen below.

We recommend that you enable password protection on your AirPlay device prior to registering it to prevent others from streaming content without your permission.

Example 2. Chromecast.

The MAC address for a Chromecast can be found within the Settings menu when in the Chromecast app. Note that your Chromecast must be on the same network as your controlling device for it to work.

Chromecast, FireTV, and some other devices do not have ways to restrict who can stream content to the device. This means that anyone could stream any compatible content to the device without your consent.

For Android devices, we recommended turning off the ability for the device to advertise itself to other Android devices in order to mitigate the issue.
