Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is the extra security step you use to log into your Penn College account. Microsoft is stopping the option to get login codes through text messages or phone calls. You must use the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone instead.
Because you use your personal phone, follow these simple rules so you do not get locked out of your classes and email.
Set Up a Backup Plan Right Now
Do not wait for an emergency. Set up a backup plan today so you never get locked out:
- Add multiple authentication devices: If you have an iPad, tablet, or a second mobile device, download the Authenticator app there too.
- Get a hardware key backup: A FIDO2 key is the most phishing-resistant means of authenticating and a great way to retain access to your account.
If You Get a New Phone
- Keep both phones near you: Do not trade in, erase, or throw away your old phone yet. You need it to log in one last time.
If Your Phone is Lost, Damaged or Stolen
- Contact the IT Service Desk for help setting up a new MFA method on your replacement device.
- Unenroll the old device, especially if the device is lost or stolen. Unenrolling the old device is important to keep your account safe.
