Installing Windows 11 From Software Center

Overview

This article will walk you through starting the Windows 11 upgrade on your PCT computer. The upgrade may take up to 60 minutes to complete.

Please close all programs before starting the upgrade process.

Please back up any data saved on your local PC to your network or OneDrive before starting the upgrade process.

If the upgrade is not available to you within a few days of the Portal announcement, please contact the IT Service Desk at ext. 4848.

If you have not already done so, Microsoft Office 2021 can also be installed from Software Center.

Instructions

Step 1. 

Open Software Center from the start menu by searching as in the image below. You can open the start menu by clicking the Windows logo. Select "Software Center" under Programs to continue.

When the upgrade is first made available, you may see a notification icon which says "New Software is Available."

If you do not see the Software Center program, please email ITServiceDesk@pct.edu. Be sure to include the ITS sticker number of your computer and leave your PC on when you leave for the day.

Step 2.

Once Software Center has been opened, click Operating Systems on the left, then select the Windows 11 21h2 Upgrade.

Step 3.

After selecting the Windows 11 upgrade, click the blue Install button.

Step 4.

When prompted, click the blue Install button in the new window to confirm your upgrade. After this point, the upgrade cannot be paused. Please save your work before continuing.

Step 5.

You will see a progress bar in a window like the one below on your screen indicating the progress of the upgrade. Your PC may reboot several times during the upgrade. When it is finished, you will be presented with a Windows 11 login screen. Please contact the IT Service Desk if you have any issues or questions after the upgrade.

Step 6.

After logging in to Windows 11 for the first time, you may see an installation prompt for Microsoft Teams or the "New software is available" message again. You can open the System Center application where you started the Windows 11 upgrade and you should see an option to install Office 2021. Please install this at your earliest convenience.

Step 7.

The Windows 10 upgrade will uninstall certain printers as part of the upgrade process. If you find some of your printers were removed, they can be installed again from Print2. Installing Network Printers on Windows Devices
