Insert Kaltura Video from Shared Repository (into P.L.A.T.O. Course Site)

Overview 

Embed Kaltura video content from the Shared Repository into a P.L.A.T.O. course site.

Instructions 

Step 1.

Within a P.L.A.T.O. course site, navigate to the Course Content section. This can be achieved by either choosing Content under the Lessons pull-down menu, or by clicking Course Content within the side-frame menu.

Step 2.

Within the appropriate Course Content module, click the Add Existing Activities button and choose Embed Kaltura Media from the pull-down menu.
This will launch an Add Activity pop-up menu.

Step 3.

Within the Add Activity pop-up menu click on the Shared Repository tab to view streaming videos that are available for use by all Penn College faculty and staff.

Once you have found the desired video, click its Embed button.

Note: videos can be quickly found by using the Search box, and the results narrowed down using Filters such as program Categories.

Step 4.

The video will now appear as a content item within the module. You can add dates, a description, or release conditions to the content item.

Step 5.

Students can simply view the video by clicking on the video's title, just as they would any other course content item.

The video will be displayed in a media player which includes closed captioning, a downloadable transcript, variable playback speeds, and full-frame functionality.

Step 6.

The video will also be automatically added to the Media Gallery for the course site. A Media Gallery is a unique library that contains all Kaltura media embedded within that specific course. This establishes an easy-to-find media repository for students to quickly return to for the review and retention of material.

Note: media can be deleted from a Media Gallery without effecting the embedded copy that was placed within the Course Content section.
