Access PCT Network File Storage via WinSCP on Windows

Overview

Penn College network drives are provided specifically for downloading and submitting course assignments. All network drive usage is subject to the College's Information Technology Resources Acceptable Use Policy.

These instructions explain how to access the College's network file storage using a Windows-based computer and WinSCP.

Instructions

Step 1 - Download.

Download and run the installer for WinSCP. You can obtain this for free via www.winscp.net.

Step 2 - Install.

1. Accept the License Agreement.
2. Leave Typical installation selected, and press next.
3. Select your preferred layout style for the program. We recommend the Explorer style. Press next.
4. On the Ready to Install page, press Install.

Step 3 - Launch & Connect.

When WinSCP launches, a Login window opens.
Create your connection to PCT as shown in the picture below (use your Penn College network username and password).

Click Login when complete.
You'll be prompted with a warning message about connecting to an unknown server. You can select yes, as it is simply asking if we trust the college's file servers.
A banner giving information on the school's FTP server is presented. Read this message, then press Continue.

You now have access to the school's network storage drives!

If you selected the Explorer layout, files can be moved to and from the server by dragging files between a regular Windows File Explorer window and the WinSCP client.
If you selected the Commander layout, files can be moved between the local storage panel on the left and remote storage on the right.
