Daily Email Sending Limit for Student Accounts

Students are limited to sending no more than 200 emails per day, whether to internal (other Penn College accounts) or external recipients (outside organizations such as Gmail, Outlook, etc.).

This policy was enacted to address the increasing risk of:

  • Compromised accounts: being used to send malicious emails.
  • Secondary compromise: where recipients of phishing or spam emails from compromised accounts are also breached.
  • Damage to our institution’s email reputation: potential of resulting blacklisting by major email providers, which would prevent delivery of legitimate emails from Penn College Email Accounts

Students with a legitimate need to exceed this limit (e.g., student organization communication, class projects, approved outreach) may request an exemption.

Requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and must include justification and the time period that the exception is needed.
