Overview
Any time you interact with an asset, you should be verifying inventory information and updating the record for the asset as well. This article provides you with guidelines for what to check and how to update an asset record.
Description
- If you are visiting this asset due to a ticket that has been submitted, be certain that the asset is linked to that ticket. This can be done inside the Assets/CIs application.
- Click in to the asset
- Click on the Tickets tab.
- Click "add ticket"
- Click the magnifying glass icon.
- Search for Ticket ID, or any of the other options available to you in the search window.
- Click on the name of the ticket.
- If you are visiting this asset due to a project task that you have been assigned, you can simply add a note in the feed of the asset.
- This can be done on one asset by clicking in, clicking update, updating the "Last Inventory Date" field and adding a comment "visited to complete project task" or similar.
- This can be done to many assets at once using a search within the Assets/CIs application. Use the filter Icon to get only the assets you want to update, click in the check boxes to the left of the asset record, click update.
- Note: you can now update custom attributes like Last Inventory Date in bulk
- Select assets to be updated
- Click Update
- Click Custom attribute
- Select the attribute you want to add to the update
- Update the value
- Save
- Note: you can save your searches for areas that you visit often.
- Always confirm the following when working on an asset
- Form is correct
- Name is correct
- Service Tag is correct (if it came from Dell)
- Serial number is correct
- Product Model is correct
- Location and location room are correct
- Owning Department/owner are correct
- Last inventory Date is updated to the date you visited the asset.

- Asset is not in TDX
- Asset is in TDX, but something seems wrong with the information in the record
- You are not able to see the fields you want to update.
- You want to save a search, but aren't sure how to build the search to get the records you want.
