Video Conferencing Etiquette

Overview

Provides some guidelines for off-site collaboration and video-conference best practices

Description

  • Minimize any type of back lighting (i.e. lights or an open window) behind you. Lighting is best when it is pointed directly at you
  • Wear a headset with a microphone if possible to minimize unwanted feedback
  • Mute your microphone when not speaking
  • Dress properly
  • Frame the camera properly
  • Place the web camera at eye level towards you. Look at the camera when speaking
  • Pay attention
  • Be on time
  • Be careful to avoid doing anything that may cause distractions to others (like eating)
  • Turn off music, videos or any other background sounds
  • Use a stable Internet connection

Most importantly – act the same respectful way if you were present in the same room with others
