Access PCT Network File Storage via FileZilla on MacOS

Overview

Penn College network drives are provided specifically for downloading and submitting course assignments. All network drive usage is subject to the College's Information Technology Resources Acceptable Use Policy. These instructions explain how to access the College's network file storage using a MacOS-based computer and FileZilla.

In this example, the free version of FileZilla is used.

Instructions

Step 1.

Download FileZilla from https://filezilla-project.org/download.php?type=client and save it to your Downloads folder.

Step 2.

Open Finder and navigate to your downloads folder, double click on the file you just downloaded. This will extract the FileZilla.app to your downloads folder. Once you have this file extracted copy the FileZilla.app to your Applications folder.

Step 3.

Open FileZilla.app from your applications folder.

Step 4.

Once in the app select "File > Site Manager" from the top bar.

Step 5.

Click on "New Site", and name it as you would like.

Step 6.

Under the "General" tab fill in the information such as it is bellow (Using your PCT Username/Password).

Protocol: FTP - File Transfer Protocol

Host: ftp.pct.edu

Encryption: Use explicit FTP over TLS if available

Login Type: Normal

User: Your PCT Username

Password: Your PCT Password

Step 7.

Once you have all the information filled in select "Connect". You will get a message asking you to accept a certification, check both boxes at the bottom and select "OK".

Step 8.

Once you are connected you should see a screen similar to the one below. Files can be dragged and dropped between the two sides to transfer between your computer and network storage.
