How to Setup the Microsoft Authenticator app for Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

Two-step verification (also called multi-factor authentication or MFA) helps protect you by making it more difficult for someone else to sign in to your Microsoft account.
Once your account is provisioned, the next time you log into your PCT account, you will be redirected to the Microsoft Authenticator setup screen.

How to Setup the Microsoft Authenticator app for Microsoft MFA

Two-step verification (also called multi-factor authentication or MFA) helps protect you by making it more difficult for someone else to sign in to your Microsoft account.

1. Once your account is provisioned, the next time you log into your PCT account, you will be redirected to the Microsoft Authenticator setup screen.

2. You will be prompted to download the “Microsoft Authenticator” Application on the smart
     phone. Once installed, click Next.

3If prompted, allow notification, then add an account and select Work or school, then click Next.

 - If you are signing into a computer and setting up MFA continue to step 4.

 - If you are setting up MFA while on your Cell Phone continue to Setting up MFA while on Cell Phone.

4. Select, Use the Microsoft Authenticator app to scan the QR code. This connects the app to your account.

5. Enter the number shown in the app to approve the sign-in request.

6. You will then be greeted by a success screen, and you have successfully set up your account to use Microsoft Authentication. Select Done to continue.

7. You will then be redirected to a login screen.

Note: Password Requirements

  • Password Must be at least 12 characters long

  • Cannot include your username, full name or other personal identifiers

  • Cannot match your two most recent passwords (if changing)

  • Must include at least three of the following four character types:

    • Uppercase letters (A–Z)

    • Lowercase letters (a–z)

    • Numbers (0–9)

    • Special characters (!, $, #, or %)

5. Select Pair your account to the app by clicking this link.

6. Enter the number shown in the app.

8. You will then be greeted by a success screen, and you have successfully set up your account to use Microsoft Authentication. Select Done to continue.
