How to recall an email message using Outlook 2013 or 2016 for windows

Note: Recalling a message can take up to two minutes to process and will only be successful if the following conditions are met:

  • The recipient uses the Outlook client (not Outlook Web app or the Outlook Mobile app),
  • It will not work if the message was sent to someone outside of the College.
  • The recipient's mailbox must be open for the recall to succeed. If not it will be processed the next time the recipient opens Outlook
  • The message must still be unread and in the recipient's Inbox. Will not work if they preview the message or read it before the recall 
  • This will not work if the recipient only uses Outlook Web App or a mobile device to access Email 

In Outlook 2013 / 2016 for windows

  1. In Mail, in the Folder Pane, click Sent Items.
  2. Double-click the message that you want to recall.
  3. On the Message tab, in the Move group, click More Actions, and then click Recall This Message.
  4. The following pop-up will appear.

  5. Select the appropriate options and click OK.
