Worker Overview

Worker: A person who performs work for the College.

• Employee: [Hired] workers [paid by the College] who [do a specific job]. 
  • Types
    • Faculty: Subject to the PCEA Contract.
    • Staff: Not Subject to the PCEA Contract.
    • Student: Is a student and not subject to the PCEA Contract.
  • Statuses
    • Applicant: A [pre-hire] (prospective) Employee
    • Probationary: A [newly-hired] Employee through their first 180 days. 
    • Employee: A regular status (non-Probationary) Employee. 
    • Retiree: A [post-hire] Employee with special status.
• Contractor: [Third-party] workers [paid by the College] who [provide specific services, deliverables, or effort for a defined duration]. 
• Affiliate: [Third-party] workers [not paid by the College] who [provide specific services, deliverables, or effort for a defined duration].
• Volunteer: [Unhired] workers [not paid by anyone] who [do a specific job] [without obligation].

Employee, Faculty: 

[Hired] workers [paid by the College] who [do a specific job] and are [subject to the PCEA Faculty Contract]. 

• Faculty, FT: [Full-time] teaching employee. 
• Librarians: [Full-time] Library employee, may or may not teach. 
• Counselors: [Full-time] non-teaching employee. 
• Faculty, PT (Adjunct): [Part-time] teaching employee. Not Bargaining Unit members. 

Employee, Staff: 

[Hired] workers [paid by the College] who [do a specific job] and are [not subject to the PCEA Faculty Contract].

• Staff, APT:  Employees in Administrative, Professional, or Technical roles.
• Staff, Service: Employees in non-APT roles

Employee, Student: 

[Hired] workers [paid by the College] who [do a specific job] and are [not subject to the PCEA Faculty Contract].

• Resident Assistant: A student who works as an RA in return for Room and Board 
• Student, Work Study: A student worker in the Federal Work Study Program (FWSP) 
• Student, Veteran Worker: A student worker in the Veteran Work Study Program (VET) 
• Student, Intern: A student worker acting in an area related to their academic program inside Penn College. 
• Student, Extern: A student worker acting in an area related to their academic program outside Penn College.   
• Student, Employee: A student employee, not academically related. 
• Student, Volunteer: A student who volunteers for the College. 

Contractor: 

[Third-party] workers [paid by the College] who [provide specific services, deliverables, or effort for a defined duration]. 

• Workforce Development Contractors

• Technician, JCI: Contractors responsible for managing and operating the College’s building control systems.
• Technician, Anthology Managed Services: Contractors providing Anthology Student Information System product and process support.
• DAR Interpreters: Contractors who provide interpreter services at PCT.

Affiliate: 

[Third-party] workers [not paid by the College], who [provide specific services, deliverables, or effort for a defined duration].

• Supervisor, Clinical: Affiliates provided by [Geisinger] responsible for [radiography clinical rotations]. 
• Preceptors, Clinical: Affiliates provided by clinical sites responsible for oversight of clinical students while onsite. 
• Instructor, Dual Enrollment: Affiliates [teaching Dual Enrollment High School Students]. 
• Instructor, ROTC: Affiliates [teaching in the ROTC program].
• Unpaid Intern: Affiliate who works for PCT based on learning objective(s).

Note: Supervisor, Veteran Work Study was considered, but deemed not an affiliate as they are PCT Employees (Staff).

Volunteers:

• Athletic Coach: Volunteer who works with Athletic Teams.
