Instructions

Poll Everywhere is a useful PowerPoint activity utility that allows you to poll and engage your students as you instruct them. On occasion, you may run into issues where the "instruction" set of your slide may not show properly, and the questions or activity refuses to activate, no matter what you've tried. If you are running into this issue, please continue reading to see how to resolve it.

Sample images of the issue:

Sample 1: Good instruction set.

Sample 2: Missing Instruction Set

Sample 2: Missing Instruction Set

If you view the two instruction sets above, you can see how the good one has a website and QR code available. When these get cut off, like in the second sample picture, students will be unable to access your activity, and your activity may potentially be locked out, making it fully non-interactable.

To fix this issue, please try the three different processes below:

Process 1:

  1. With any of your PowerPoint slide-shows open, go to the Poll Everywhere tab at the top

  1. Click on the Settings button for a drop-down menu. Within that drop-down menu, click on the Display button.

  1. A new window should open up named Autofit Settings. In that window is a check-box called "Enable Force Autofit". Make sure that box is checked. You want it active. Once done, click on Save and try your Poll Everywhere activities again.

  1. With the activities window open, navigate to the question you are having issues with.
  2. Ensure the question is active. It should have a green radial icon as well as a green dot next to that activity.
    1. Please note that only one activity can be active at a time. This is by design to keep your students with you on the activity list. Activities should automatically activate as you get to each one.

  1. Give your activity a try again. This may require closing and re-opening your PowerPoint slide-show to get the activity to activate fully.

Each activity has a slightly hidden option that allows the use of web access and text access. Sometimes these may get toggled off through a myriad of ways. This will describe how to fix each individual activity, and then how to change all of your activities at once, if needed.

Part 1:

  1. In your PowerPoint slide-show, navigate to the Poll Everywhere tab at the top.
