Working with Product Types in TeamDynamix asset applications

Overview

In an Assets/CIs Application, a product type is a group of assets that possess similar characteristics. Product type can refer to categories of hardware items (such as desktops, laptops, or tablets) or even to items found around the office (cabinets, coffee machines, or chairs). Product types can encompass multiple product models; for example, if your office uses multiple models of desktop computers, you might list all of these models under the product type category "Desktops". 

Creating Product Types

To create a product type:

1. In TDNext, go to Assets/CI Application > Product Types.
2. Click the +New Type button.
3. Fill in the required and optional fields in the Add Product Type window.
4. Click the Active checkbox.
5. Click the Save button.

Editing Product Types

To edit a product type:

1. In TDNext, go to Assets/CI Application > Product Types.
2. In the Product Type column, click the Name link of the product model you’d like to edit.
3. On the Product Type Detail page, click the Edit Type button.
4. Change the required and optional details as desired.
5. Click the Save button.

Deleting Product Types

Product types need to be deleted one-by-one. While Product Types are created and edited in TDNext, they can only be deleted in TDAdmin.

To delete a product type:

1. In TDAdmin, go to Applications > Assets/CI Application > Product Types.
2. In the Product Type column, find the Name of the product type you’d like to delete.
3. In the Delete column near the product type Name, click the Delete button.
4. In the window that opens, click OK.
